I am so ecstatic to share with you this new idea/concept I have created for the new year!
Since the beginning of last year my family has decided to come up with a ‘word’ for their new year. Last year’s word for me was FOCUS. To focus on what is ahead, to focus on school, on my faith and life in general.
I decided that this year I was going to fully and wholeheartedly put my ‘word’ into action. Last year was a good start but my intentions to make the word FOCUS my word was not as confident as it could have been.
This year’s word came to mind as I was sitting outside on a Sunday morning outside of the church. Thoughts running around in my head, selfishness taking over, fear, anger, sadness, practically every emotion was overtaking me because of one little event in my life. I truly believe that the devil got to my head with the word DEFEAT.
Defeat isn’t exactly a word I wanted to live with for the new year of 2018. So, I looked up antonyms for defeat, I came across a few and nothing really stood out but eventually I came across the word; CONQUER.
That’s it, conquer.
I quickly knew that that was my word, in an instance, in a heartbeat and no hesitations. I grabbed my pen and my notebook, opened up the bible app and searched the word CONQUER.
Here is what I wrote;
Verb; overcome and take control of (a place or people) by use of military force.
- Successfully overcome (a problem or weakness)
Military Force = The Bible (Ephesians 6:11-20)
Conquer > Defeat
Romans 8:37-39; “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I simply fell in love with the word conquer because I want to conquer this year with a whole heart, I want to immerse myself in God’s love and most of all I want to use the emotion of defeat when I am sad, angry, or fearful, I want to CONQUER those emotions with the love of God and the power of the holy spirit.
So cheers to a new year, of love, happiness and conquering life one step at a time. 🙂
